U.S. markets enter Thursday, April 9, 2026, with the backdrop set by the Wednesday, April 8 session.

Stocks stabilized after the prior pullback. There was no sharp rebound. But there was no further drop either. Oil stayed elevated. Yields held firm. The dollar stayed near recent levels.

The S&P 500 held near 6,550–6,600.
The Dow held near 46,200–46,400.
The Nasdaq stayed near 21,700–21,800.
The Russell 2000 held near 2,520–2,540.

The market paused. It did not reset.

Equity Markets

The session was mixed to slightly positive. The S&P 500 moved close to flat. The Dow showed a small gain. The Nasdaq held steady after the prior drop. Small caps did not lead. Participation stayed uneven. Some sectors improved, but the move did not spread widely.

This looks like stabilization, not expansion.

Fixed Income

Yields stayed firm again. The 10-year Treasury yield held near 4.30%-4.35%. The 2-year remained near 3.80%-3.85%. There was still no clear drop. That keeps financial conditions tight. Even with stocks holding, the rate backdrop did not improve.

Currency Markets

The dollar remained stable. The U.S. Dollar Index held near 99.5–100.0. There was no large move. But the level still signals steady demand for U.S. assets.

Commodities

Oil stayed elevated. WTI crude held near $114–$116. Brent crude stayed near $109–$111. There was no real pullback. That keeps cost pressure in place. Gold stayed steady again. Gold held near $4,640–$4,660. This continues the same pattern. Oil remains active. Gold remains secondary.

Macro Backdrop

Markets moved closer to key data. The Fed minutes were released midweek. The CPI report is now the next major release. The setup is clear. Growth is stable. Rates are high. Inflation pressure is still present. Markets are waiting for confirmation.
